예를 들어 "You've got to be kidding me" 같은 표현을 익혔다면, 실제 놀랄 만한 상황에서 써보는 것입니다.

How to Learn English with Movies and TV Shows
The biggest gap between textbook English and real English is speed, pronunciation, and expressions. Movies and shows capture natural sentences and intonation exactly as native speakers use them. Used well, they become a more powerful resource than any textbook — but studying with them is very different from just watching for fun.
Step 1 — Choose the Right Content for Your Level
Fast action films or medical/legal dramas full of jargon will exhaust you quickly. Beginners should start with sitcoms full of everyday conversation, where lines are clear and context makes meaning easy to guess. Intermediate learners can branch out — and starting with a show you've already seen lets you focus purely on the language.
Step 2 — Break It into 3–5 Minute Segments
Trying to study a whole episode leads most people to give up. Pick one short scene of about five minutes and repeat just that part. Use ArirangPlay's A-B loop repeat to set the start and end points and replay the same scene effortlessly.
Step 3 — Three-Pass Listening
- Listen without subtitles — See how much you catch by ear alone.
- Check with English subtitles — Match what you missed and identify why (linking sounds, contractions, unknown words).
- Listen again without subtitles — The same segment now sounds much clearer.
Step 4 — Shadowing to Build Speaking
Listening alone won't improve speaking. Repeat each line aloud 0.5–1 second behind the actor, imitating intonation, stress, and emotion. For hard parts, slow to 0.75× to practice, then return to normal speed.
Step 5 — Make Expressions Your Own
Pick 2–3 favorite lines, write them down, and say them in your own situations. Expressions memorized with context stick far longer.
Consistency Builds Skill
Studying one scene properly for 30 minutes a day beats binging three films on the weekend. Keep a tool that makes segment repetition easy, and build up a little every day.
ArirangPlay is a learning platform where creators and instructors distribute their own videos — or videos they are authorized to distribute (self-hosted files such as mp4, and YouTube links) — to members as bundled courses. English instructors can deliver their own lesson videos to students with a built-in loop-repeat and shadowing environment.
